New website launched to encourage employee ownership in Wales
A new website has been launched for business owners in Wales thinking about employee ownership and business succession. The site, employeeownershipwales.co.uk, has been unveiled on Employee Ownership Day, a national celebration of employee ownership and all things employee owned in the UK.

The site offers business owners – regardless of company size, age, sector or location in Wales – a fully-funded Options Appraisal to help them decide whether Employee Ownership can work for their company.
Employee Ownership is where a business is totally or significantly owned by its employees. It is now the fastest growing form of business ownership, offering a significant number of benefits for businesses, their employees and the owners looking at succession planning.
With research showing that employee-owned businesses are stronger performing with employees who are more engaged and committed, Employee Ownership is also becoming increasingly popular with entrepreneurs creating new businesses, to help attract and reward talented employees and drive business growth.
The new site has been developed as part of the Social Business Wales programme which is funded by the European Regional Development Fund through Welsh Government and delivered by the Wales Co-operative Centre.
The website highlights the benefits of employee-ownership, some of the options available, as well as the free support on offer from a team of specialist advisors.
Nicola Mehegan is the Project Manager responsible for Employee Ownership support within Social Business Wales:
“We understand that selling your business, or letting someone else take the reins, can be a difficult decision. But with our new website, business owners and employees can get information about the various Employee Ownership options that are available to them, and more importantly can access the support of experts who’ve been doing this work in Wales for many years.”
